Yuma family loses home to fire
A Yuma family of three is reaching out to the community for help, after losing everything they own in a fire.
The fire sparked at approximately 1:00 p.m. Friday near Avenue 5E and Highway 95.
The mother of the homeowner recalls the moment her daughter called her in panic and shock.
“I think god that she was not inside. When she called me and told me her house was on fire … the only thing I could tell her was thank god she was not inside, her son, or her husband. I told her materialistic things they come and go,” said the mother.
An eyewitness next door says he called 911 as soon as he walked outside and saw the flames. He described the fire’s fury as a freight train.
“It was burning and firefighters had not arrived yet. The maintenance workers were tossing water in the surrounding homes that’s when crews came in. At the time it sounded like an explosion,” said Rosario Lopez.
The homeowner tells us her child who wears a hearing implant is left tonight without his batteries to recharge.
“My son wears a Choclea Implant. Every night we charge them. But tonight I’m worried that it won’t be possible,” said Jessica Fernandez.
As for the mother of the homeowner she’s left with only a few words.
“Imagine coming home to this. But to know that my daughter is okay, I can only thank God.”
The cause of the fire is not immediately known because the roof of the trailer caved in.
