Border Patrol discovers meth in vehicle’s gas tank

Border Patrol agents arrested a man after smuggling methamphetamine inside the gas tank of his vehicle at the Highway 111 immigration checkpoint Tuesday evening.

A 25-year-old man driving a 2007 Nissan Altima approached the checkpoint where a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle.

Agents referred the driver to secondary inspection where they discovered 25 packages hidden inside the vehicle’s gas tank.

The contents of the packages were examined and tested positive for methamphetamine with a total weight of 27.64 pounds and an estimated street value of $96,740.

The man, a United States citizen, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the vehicle and narcotics.
