Border Patrol agents rescue victim from kidnapper

U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued an 18-year-old woman from her alleged kidnapper Friday morning.

The suspect is Chandler Golden, a 21-year-old Chandler resident, who was booked into Yuma County Jail on charges of kidnapping.

Border Patrol agents at the immigration checkpoint east of Yuma referred a 2016 Jeep Patriot for secondary inspection following a Border Patrol canine’s alert.

During the inspection, agents questioned Golden and the 18-year-old female passenger separately. In the process, agents ran records checks on both individuals and learned the woman was reported missing from Phoenix.

The woman, a Gilbert resident, told agents that Golden took her against her will and beat her.

The victim and Golden had been in a relationship and the kidnapping was a domestic violence situation, according to officials.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol’s Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Provazink later said, “We prepare our agents to handle all sorts of situations in all types of environments. It was with this training that agents were able to save a woman from her kidnapper, leading to her eventual return to her family.”
