Topic of the Day: DACA in the cross hairs according to sources

While most Americans looked forward to spending Labor Day relaxing with friends and family, many instead are in uproar over news from Capitol Hill. According to several sources close to the president report that President Donald J. Trump plans to announce the desolation of the ‘Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals’ or DACA.

The Obama-era program allows for children of illegal immigrants to stay in the U.S. for work or school without the fear of deportation. Sources are reporting that President Trump plans on placing a 60-day delay on his plan in order to give congress time to come up with some sort of immigration legislation.

Supporters of dissolving DACA see this as a move towards being tougher on those who break the law. Those who support DACA fear that if dismantled it would affect close to a million “Dreamers” enrolled in the programs and cost states in lost revenue and tuition.

Many have taken to social media to voice their concern; “If Trump decides to end DACA, it will be one of the ugliest and cruelest decisions ever made by a president in our modern history,” Sen. Bernie Sanders. California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein said “there were more DACA recipients in California than in any other state”. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said on Twitter that ending DACA would give “chance 2 restore Rule of Law.”
