“Well it’s Yuma, it’s hot, bring yourself a bottle of water, just make sure that it’s sealed,” said Dave Nash, the Public Affairs Coordinator in Yuma. Yumans, get excited, the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex has arrived and is set to make it’s debut. “This is project that has been going on for almost four years from purchasing the land to going thru the design phase to even the construction phase all leading up to the grand opening that’s going to be happening Friday, September first,” said Debbie Wendt, Director of Parks and Recreation in Yuma. The PAAC offers a variety of things including six lit fields at 325 feet, a concession area where alcohol will be served, a playground area and an additional park that is 4 and half acres. Cibola High School band will be the opening act and once the ribbon cutting ceremony concludes, the games begin! “We’re going to to move right over to the championship field, which is what you see right behind me. We’ll be doing the opening ceremonies for the national tournament. It’s the class E Mens US slow inch softball tournament.” said Wendt. Who can resist watching a sports game with all the necessary refreshments, all of which you can find at the PAAC, ” Dave Nash explains. “Leave the alcohol and containers and cooler at home, we have concession stands here to take care of your needs for all that. As far as seating goes, you’ll be sitting comfortably as the PAAC offers plenty of room. “We have a very interesting seating arrangement. While there is some bleacher space around our championship field, most of what we have is teared seating, now there’s some concrete if you didn’t remember to bring something to sit on comfortably, otherwise theirs room to put up your own chairs. ” Debbie Wendt of Parks and Recreation believes the PAAC is not only going to benefit our cities economy, but bring our community together. “It’s a fantastic thing that’s coming to Yuma and council approved it and the backing of the community members, so it’s going to happen,” said Wendt.
