Impaired driving enforcement detail
It’s that time of year again where our local law enforcement is out in full force patrolling the areas for their Labor Day impaired driving enforcement detail. With the help from the Arizona Governor’s Office of highway safety, the focus will be impaired driving and the apprehension of impaired drivers. In other words, driving drunk will result in that person being arrested no matter what. The driving detail takes place September 1st thru September 4th and police assistant Edith Ruiz from YPD explains why in particular, traffic safety is a must in the next coming days and it’s not only because of the holiday weekend. “Impaired driving is one of America’s most committed and deadliest crimes, this weekend being Labor Day. We also have dove hunting season and we also have the grand opening of the PAAC . There will be lots of people on the roadways. We like to make sure that everybody gets out and about safely. If you’re going to be going out, especially if you’ve been out drinking, make plans ahead of time,” said Ruiz. Last Labor Day, YPD saw a total of 141 traffic stops with 8 being DUI related and the average BAC level at .108.
