The Calexico Brown Bag Coalition, Brawley people and San Diego volunteers are teaming up to send much needed help to victims of Category 4 hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Coalition Co-founder Maribel Padilla says they’ve put together over 50 bags of clothing for men, women and children waiting to be loaded on trucks coming from San Diego on Saturday morning on their way to affected areas.

Brawly relief organizer Cody Preece said two trucks will reach Texas this evening. They carry 14,000 bottles of water, baby bottles, kid supplies, and dog food. They’ve also raised nearly $10,000 in relief money. They’ll be making another run next week.

Padilla said it’s important to help others because nobody knows when it’ll be their turn to be in need.

“We have women’s clothes. We have children’s clothes. We have men’s clothes. We have large sizes and small. We have everything. Right now, what we’re looking for is not nearly a lot more clothes. What we’re looking for is women’s feminine products. Maybe diapers for children. Diapers for adults. Any toiletries that we can send,” Padilla said.

Anyone interested in donating to the Imperial Valley rescue effort can contact the Calexico Brown Bag Coalition or Cody Preece at their Facebook pages.
