Learn a lot s’more about Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts of Imperial Valley will be hosting their end of summer s’mores party Monday night.
Along with troops being honored with awards the night is also an opportunity for those interested in girl scouts to see what they are all about.
News 11 joined in for s’more on the nights festivities.
The end of summer party will be held at Ben Hulse Elementary in Imperial, starting at 6 o’clock.
“We are inviting existing troops in the imperial valley that received a special incentive for opening up their troops and adding a girl since we are an inclusive organization,” said Nina Crabtree, Membership Recruitment & Support Specialist with Imperial Valley Girl Scouts.
Participants will be celebrating National S’mores Day which happened earlier this month, along with other interactive stations.
“We will provide a stem station, an arts and crafts station, a s’mores station. We will do an official opening ceremony with the flag and the promise, and law. And then we will finish it off with songs at the end of the evening,” added Crabtree.
The organization has been gaining members, growing 35% in this past year alone. Tonight’s event is free and will also serve as an opportunity to recruit.
“If anyone would like to come out to learn about what girl scouts has to offer, we are always accepting girls and especially adult volunteers,” explained Crabtree.
There are currently 35 troops in the Imperial Valley; Crabtree says they are looking to increase their membership by 30% for next year.
“Girl is, go getter, innovator, risk taker and leader. We talk about communication, courage, building girls of courage, confidence and character. There so much that they can do,” said Crabtree.
The event is from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and if you missed tonight’s opportunity, they will be having other recruitments in the near future.
