The Day After; President Trump’s arrival to MCAS
Now that the President has left Arizona, we’re getting a closer look behind the scenes. We caught up with the Communication Director to get an inside look at the Presidents time spent on base and how he was perceived by locals in the military. Captain Gabriel Adibe of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma showed us around base as the madness that was yesterday will now be remembered as just a moment in time. We were able to go to the exact location of where President Donald Trump landed in Air Force One and we got the low down on what he did once getting off the plane. Captain Adibe mentioned that his Public Affairs Unit started their day early to prep everything for Trumps arrival that included prepping their gear, camera equipment and getting ready to do media escorts. 40 different types of media came out for the President’s appearance. “Yesterday was a really exciting day, we had a lot of Marines and Sailors and their family and friends actually able to see President Trump. When he arrived, he actually came out, shook my hand. I was one of the first Marines to shake hands with him. He signed a couple covers and the Marines and their family members were super excited about that and it was just a great feeling,” said Adibe. He added that 250 Marines were out in the heat to greet President Trump as he spent a good 30 minutes talking to the majority of them, making sure to shake everyone’s hand. As far as details go on exactly what Trump did before getting to base, MCAS Yuma was tight lipped, but it’s safe to say that his debut really made a positive impact to those Marines and the people in our community.
