Man involved in rollover accident in El Centro

A Brawley man was involved in a rollover accident while driving on McConnell Road on Wednesday.

Fernando Mungarro, a 36-year-old man, was driving his 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser northbound on McConnell Road, a mile south of State Route 78, at the speed of 70 mph.

Mungarro was approaching a moving farm vehicle, who was traveling northbound when he attempted to maneuver around the farm vehicle and drove onto the west dirt shoulder.

Mungarro made an unsafe turning movement back to the right onto the roadway and lost control of his Toyota. The vehicle then spun in a clockwise manner across the roadway towards a concrete ditch.

The impact and position of the Toyota caused it to overturn within the concrete ditch. The Toyota landed on its roof as it came to a stop within the concrete ditch.

Once California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, Mungarro had already been helped out of the Toyota by Good Samaritans and was found lying face upward.

Due to the rollover, Mungarro had major injuries to his left ankle and a dislocated right knee.

Mungarro was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital to treat his injuries.
