Goodwill Hiring Fest brings hundreds looking for jobs

The Goodwill Career Center held their annual Hiring Fest on Wednesday. A little over 600 candidates showed up, either looking for their first job or a career change.

Exactly 30 employers from retail, hospitality, to law enforcement, looking for applicants to fill all types of positions. It’s also a “one-stop” shop where job seekers have a chance to update and print their resume, fill out applications, and even ask questions to future employers about the career field and what they’re looking for in a position.

Humberto, an applicant, seemed pretty impressed with the turnout.

“So far it’s actually really good, it’s really well organized and I really don’t have any complaints.”

He’s interested in a career in law enforcement, specifically in the U.S. Border Patrol. A popular choice in our area considering the fact we’re located a small distance away from the border of Mexico.Commander Godino who serves the San Luis Port of Entry, says most applicants join because of the benefits and the values of protecting our border.

“We’re looking for motivated people, we’re looking for people who want to work, who want to better themselves. that want to excel” said Godino.

For some applicants, this wasn’t their first time looking for jobs. Genesis says she’s hoping to find something in nursing or something related to the field.

It’s a lot busier than it was last year, but hopefully this year I’ll have a little more luck on my side.”
