State grant will help El Centro build a new soccer park
Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia announced Friday that the City of El Centro has received the California Youth Soccer and Recreation Development Program grant funding
“As Chair of the California State Assembly Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife it is my pleasure to congratulate the City of El Centro, who has been awarded a $960,000 state grant in order to construct a new soccer field at Carlos Aguilar Park. This significant infusion of state dollars is far more than an investment into a turf of grass; it is an investment that will pay back dividends in increased public health, wellness and overall quality of life for residents,” said Assemblymember Garcia.
This competitive grant was provided through the California Department of Parks and Recreation from dollars made available through Proposition 40 .
This year, Assemblymember Garcia has his own bond moving through the legislative process; AB 18, California Clean Water, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access For All Act of 2018.
“Parks are truly transformative, within neighborhoods. We must continue to leverage all possible state resources to expand park infrastructure and safe outdoor recreational opportunities within our community. AB 18, our California Park Bond proposal seeks to do just that. This vital measure will address our state’s severe parks deficit, ensure equity and level the playing field by prioritizing investments into underserved areas, most in need of assistance,” Garcia said.
Earlier this week, the 56 th Assembly District celebrated an $800,339 California Housing-Related Parks Program grant for the Eastern Coachella Valley.
Those state dollars will go toward the construction of a brand new park for the community of North Shore, an unincorporated, rural area that borders the Salton Sea.
“If our legislative efforts prove successful, our entire district will stand to see more of its fair share of funding and we will be able to celebrate more announcements such as these, that will allow us to construct and improve more parks,” concluded an optimistic Garcia.
