Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week

Today kicks off “World Breastfeeding Week” where parents’ concerns and questions are being answered when it comes to feeding their baby.

Agencies around Yuma County held their event at the Yuma Main Library to meet with “parents to be” and new parents, to discuss the positives of breastfeeding. It’s known to not always be the easiest process but having a good support system can make the journey easier and create a bonding experience. Counselor Jessica Varela says having someone to speak to and help you during the first few weeks of breastfeeding, can take the stress off the mother and baby.

“Breast feeding is the most beautiful thing, but we have a lot of moms not sure about it, but they can call us if they need any education or any additional information. We’re here to support them. We have a monthly group of moms supporting moms, breast feeding support groups, and we all talk about breast feeding and supporting each other and that alone makes a big difference.” The process of breastfeeding is known to not always be the easiest. Having a support system or a partner to help during the first few weeks of breastfeeding, could save some stress. Varela says, “Until you do it, it calms you down and you feel that bond with that baby and knowing that you are able to give this baby milk out of your own body, noting else, helping your baby get nourish and helping your baby grow it’s an amazing feeling.”
