Car rollover on State Route 7 in El Centro

A 21-year-old man has been hospitalized after being involved in a vehicle rollover while driving southbound of Heber Road on State Route 7 Tuesday afternoon.

Martin Moraga, an El Centro resident, was traveling at an unknown rate of speed when he allowed his 1997 Toyota 4 Runner to move into the dirt center divider separating the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 7.

Moraga then turned the steering wheel to the right in an attempt to return to the roadway causing the Toyota to overturn an unknown number of times.

The vehicle eventually came to rest on its roof facing in a northerly direction about 100 feet west of State Route 7.

Moraga was able to extricate himself from his vehicle and was airlifted to Desert Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries on his left shoulder.

The rollover remains under investigation.
