Two suspects on the run following attempted homicide

The Somerton Police Department is looking for two suspects following a shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

Wednesday SPD investigated a traffic accident on US 95 at mile post 13. Immediately upon the arrival of Somerton Police Officers, officers learned that the passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the traffic crash was the victim of a gunshot wound that had just occurred in Somerton.

The driver of that vehicle was attempting to transport the victim to Yuma County Regional Medical Center (YRMC) when the crash occurred. The victim was subsequently transported to YRMC by the Cocopah/Somerton Fire Department Paramedics. The victim, a 22-year-old man, was later airlifted to a medical facility in Phoenix where he was listed in critical condition.

Investigating officers also learned that the shooting had occurred at an address in the 600 block of E. Orchid Street in Somerton, just moments before the traffic crash. Officers responded to this location, which was found to be unoccupied; and the scene was secured for crime scene processing. Witness information was obtained from several individuals and a description of the suspects and suspect’s vehicle was broadcast to area law enforcement agencies.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect #1: Male/Hispanic – 20-25 years old, approximately 5’3″, 100 lbs., dark complexion, black hair, tattoos on both arms in the elbow area. He was last seen wearing a black tank-top and khaki shorts.

Suspect #2: Male/Hispanic – 20-25 years old, approximately 6’3″, 180 lbs., black air with tattoos on his right arm. He was last seen wearing a black tank-top and khaki shorts.

The suspect vehicle was described as a: White newer model BMW – 4-door, unknown registration.
