Over 20 tons of trash was dumped at El Centro’s CR&R Enterprises on Saturday morning.
CR&R Operations Coordinator Linda Laveaga explained, “Today we’re having our city clean-up it’s our third one this year.”
Cars loaded with unwanted items lined up for hours with home furniture, appliances, green weeds, branches, and other trash. This includes electronics and unwanted tires. Laveaga said residents can bring up to nine tires per year during the four El Centro clean-up days.
Residents like Mike Morales took advantage of the clean-up day to bring in some old patio items.
“We’re just trying to clean up a little bit of the back yard. And we wait for this opportunity every year,” Morales said.
El Centro resident William J. Pogue got rid of old wood laying around the yard.
“It’s very helpful to the community because it helps keep the community clean and we want a clean place to live,” Pogue said.
People have to show proof of residency to take advantage of this service.
“We have three requirements. All loads have to be covered with a tarp or net, always bring in a current water bill and a valid ID,” Laveaga said.
Hundreds of people are expected each time on clean-up days.
“We can get anywhere from a hundred to three hundred people. It just varies. They can do unlimited loads,” Laveaga said.
There are some restrictions that apply.
“This is only for residential properties. So, not commercial, no construction, no remodeling, no tree trunks. We’re not a landfill, so we are limited to what we can accept,” Laveaga said.
People can visit the CR& R website to find out more about clean-up days.
