UPDATE: One man dead after rollover crash in Foothills
One man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a single-vehicle rollover crash in the Foothills.
Yuma County Sheriff’s responded to a crash near the 12500 block of East South Frontage Road at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials tell New’s 11 the Ford F250 was going westbound when it rolled and crashed against the fence of a shop. Witnesses also say that during the cloud of dust, they saw the vehicle rollover about four times.
“I heard squealing. So I looked out and I saw this red truck come across and he was going pretty quick. It came across and then went right into the fence and started rolling,” said Tony Kniss, a witness at the scene.
According to the Yuma County Sheriffs Office, “the driver of a red, Ford F250 ¾ ton pickup truck … crossed the center-line almost striking another vehicle. The driver swerved to the right to avoid colliding with the vehicle and lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck proceeded off the South shoulder of the Frontage Road, struck a fence, and rolled landing up-right.”
The victim, William O’Connell, 61, was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officials say, the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this incident.
