AWC groundbreaking first step to students pursuing science and tech bachelor’s degree locally

Local students will soon be able to pursue Bachelor’s degrees in science and technology fields and it’s all thanks to a grant that’s helping bring the University of Arizona curriculum to San Luis.

Arizona Western College held a groundbreaking ceremony at San Luis Middle School Thursday morning where students will soon get the chance to enhance their educations even further as the college expands in San Luis.

Students will be able to earn one of four bachelors degrees from the University of Arizona: System Administration, Software Development, Cyber Operations, and Digital Design after earning an Informatics degree from Arizona Western College.

“They’re in the top fields, great salaries, lots of job opportunities,” states Susanna Zambrano of AWC. “It’s really difficult once our students leave the area, they go to a big city and they get wonderful opportunities out of that. To be able to retain them here, is going to be be such a great asset for our cities to be able to have them local.”

AWC says the new courses and campus expansion will address local student needs while also meeting the needs of the local industry.
