Mother of boy killed in hit-and-run shares pain with state official

Charla Huggins wants many things in life. She’s the mother of 11-year-old Avory Glover killed in a hit-and-run along Dealwood Road in El Centro two years ago. She wants justice for her son.

“There’s no way that four years is going to sit easy with me. But i don’t have any choice but to accept it. And I’m angry about that. That makes me very angry,” Huggins said.

A man identified as James Edward Killian was convicted of vehicular manslaughter. He faces up to four years of incarceration when sentenced on July 11th.

“I hate that man for taking my child. There won’t be a day in my life that I’ll ever forgive him,” Huggins said.

The grieving mother wants other kids to be safe.

“I’m doing this for the other children that want to be children and run around and have fun and not have to worry about dying,” Huggins said.

She wants to talk to state officials in the hope of making tougher laws.
“I hope to one day amend the law, the state law of California, on vehicle manslaughter and the charges that it holds,” Huggins said.

She wants to rename the street her son died on after him.

“Because that street means something to me,” Huggins said through tears.

On Friday afternoon, one of those wishes came true when Huggins met Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia for the first time and she shared her pain.
