Businesses close before start of summer

Several Desert Southwest businesses have closed up shop in the past month.

According to Patrick Goetz with Arizona at Work many businesses have closed from poor performance in the valley. Fire House Subs on Pacific avenue closed and transferred employees. Rue 21 is closing in San Luis, laying off 12 people. Emerald Corrections Management closed, laying off eight employees. Radio Shack in the Foothills has also closed their doors.

This April Yuma’s unemployment rate was 16.3% and El Centro was 19.2% according to Bureau of Labor Statistics.
