Two people flown to hospital after vessel crash

A man and woman were taken to the hospital after the vessel they were on flipped in a sandbar in the Colorado River.

Yuma County Sheriff Deputies say the incident happened Saturday at around 6:34 p.m.

David Hankins, 49, of Ramona, California crashed causing the vessel to flip, ejecting him along with a 23-year-old woman who was with him.

Rural/Metro and Arizona Game and Fish officers were able to stabilize the two patients on scene, then take them to the YCSO-Martinez Lakes Substation to be treated. Eventually the two were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center by a Marine helicopter.
