BP agents find 15 lbs. of heroin hidden in car

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the U.S. after they found more than 15 pounds of Mexican brown-powder heroin in the car he was driving.

Agents say one of their canine officers alerted the man’s car as he drove up the Highway 86 checkpoint in a black 2007 Chrysler Sebring.

The 25-year-old man was sent to secondary inspection where agents were able to find six packages that tested positive for heroin hidden in the car’s rocker panel compartments.

“Our agents put forth a magnificent effor t and do a great job in keeping these dangerous drugs off of the streets and away from our communities,” said David S. Kim Assistant Chief Patrol Agent.

Agents say the drugs could have sold for more than $150,000 in the streets.

The man, the car and drugs were turned over the Drug Enforcement Administration.
