Department of Public Works holds open house

The Imperial County Department of Public Works hosted an open house in observance of National Public Works Week.

Earlier today the public along with local students were given the opportunity to get a firsthand look at what public works does for the community.

A portion of the road in front of the administrative office was closed for displays of equipment used involving maintenance and repair, street sweeping and emergency road closures, as well as tours of the facility.

“Last year our response time was 7.25 days, to respond on a patch call. Today our response time is 2.89 days,” explained Hector Tamayo, ICDPW Crew Leader.

“We have many different areas that we are involved in here in our county, whether it’s the landfills, whether it’s roadways, whether it’s water, sewer development. I think we want to try and break down some of those misconceptions if you will,” said John Gay, Imperial County Public Works Director.

National public works week this year is being recognized May 21-27th.
