Good samaritan saves two people from drowning after ATV crash

A good Samaritan kept two unconscious people above water after they crashed the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) quad they were riding into a drainage canal with water.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department firefighters say they were called out to the area of Avenue E and County 17th at 1:10 p.m.

The good Samaritan saw the accident and called 911.

The quad was heading south on an access road of the canal when it went airborne and went into the water.

The two people riding the quad were not wearing any safety gear and suffered major facial and body injuries.

Firefighters say the two people were lucky the good Samaritan was there to call 911 and keep their faces above water while fire crews arrived.

Both patients were taken to the hospital.
