Yuma Rotary Club to award $40K in scholarship

Thanks to Yuma’s generous support of the 2017 St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, Dance and Auction, Yuma Rotary Club is able to award a single $40,000 scholarship to one deserving student!

WHO CAN APPLY: Any 2017 graduate from a public or private high school within the City of Yuma, Arizona

IMPORTANT DATES:

Deadline to submit application – May 26, 2017

Applicant interviews – June 9, 2017

Scholarship presentation – June 20, 2017

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have minimum weighted GPA of 3.2.
Application must include a typed statement describing how the student has served the local community and specific plans describing how the community will benefit after student’s college graduation

The application form must be typed and include the following:
1) Title Page
2) General Application Form
3) Resume
4) Personal Essay on community service
5) Three Letters of Recommendation – these recommendations should be from various sources who know the student. Areas of focus should be work ethic, character, academic ability, potential for success, values and community impact
6) Official transcript from the registrar’s office
7) Award letter from university the student plans to attend
8) Copy of FAFSA Student Aid Report

Once the application is submitted, the Yuma Rotary Scholarship Panel will review all submissions and contact applicants for an interview. Interviews will be held on June 9, 2017. Students who are unavailable this day should not apply. The scholarship award will be presented to the winner on June 20, 2017 at The Yuma Rotary Club’s luncheon at the Yuma Golf and Country Club.

RULES:
The total scholarship award will be dispersed over the course of eight semesters and must be used for tuition and other school fees only. The scholarship will be reviewed on an academic term-to-term basis. The student must remain a full-time student progressing toward a bachelor’s degree. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
