Two people arrested after YCSO finds heroin in their vehicle

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people after deputies said they found heroin in their vehicle.

YCSO said the bust happened Monday at 10:03 a.m. Deputies with YCSO conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on a Chevrolet sedan in the 8000 block of E. 32nd Street in Yuma.

During the course of the traffic stop, a K-9 unit was requested and responded to the location. YCSO K-9 “Jax” arrived on scene and alerted to the vehicle resulting in a subsequent search.

Through further investigation, deputies said it was revealed the two occupants inside the vehicle were concealing narcotic substances in their body cavities. The search led to the discovery of approximately 318 grams of heroin (with an approximate street value of $25,440.00) contained in 10 separate packages.

The two occupants of the vehicle, Bonifacio Alarcon Arana, 65, and Ramiro Mendoza Cortez, 38, both of Mexicali, Mexico, were arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for transportation of a narcotic, possession of a narcotic for sale, possession of a narcotic, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
