Brush fire season is officially here

Brush fire season has officially made its way to Yuma, according to fire officials. According to Rural Metro Fire Department, firefighters have responded to 4 brush fire over the last 45 days. Moreover, Yuma Fire Department officials said they’ve encountered similar numbers in the last month. With dry conditions and warmer temperatures, fire officials are warning against what’s known as brush fire season by cautioning the public. Charly McMurdie with Rural Metro Fire Department said firefighters will begin to tackle brush fires as the summer months approach. “This is the beginning of wild land season,” McMurdie said. “Whether its wild land, brush fires, forest fires, you’re going to start seeing things dry out as the temperatures get a little warmer.” Mike Erfert, a representative with the Yuma Fire Department said people should always prioritize safety.
Furthermore, especially when engaging in outdoor activities such as camp fires this time of year. “Make sure that somebody is always attending to that camp fire,” Erfert said. “And [that] they’re making sure they are always properly extinguished. But according to officials, the community should always consider the importance of reporting a fire immediately. “It’s your responsibility to report these things,” Erfert said. “[Don’t] just assume that somebody else is.”
