Yuma Lakes brush fire fully contained
The Rural/Metro Fire Department said a fire at Yuma Lakes is now fully contained.
The fire was reported Sunday at 6 p.m. Rural/Metro said they had the fire out by 9 p.m. It burned two acres.
Fire officials said they received a 911 call from a nearby resident stating that he saw smoke, drove over to check it out, and found brush on fire behind Yuma Lakes.
Rural Metro Fire Department responded and received assistance from Yuma Proving Ground Fire and the Bureau of Land Management. Yuma County Sheriff’s Office was called for traffic control in the area.
Rural Metro says they are unsure if the area falls under the BLM’s jurisdiction, so all units continued to contain the scene and are actively fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No word on how many acres the fire has burned so far. This is a developing story.
