Local students recognized in art contest

The VFW Post 8242 and its Auxiliary issued an invitation to all high school students to enter the 2017 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest earlier this year. Three Kofa High School students earned awards for their submissions.

Luis Castro received the 1st Place award. VFW Post 8242 awarded $100 and its Auxiliary awarded an additional $100 for a total of $200 for 1st Place. His work has been sent on to compete at district and state. Stephanie Franco placed 2nd Place locally and received an award of $150 total, $75 from the Post and $75 from its Auxiliary. Yulissa Aldana came in 3rd Place and received a $100 art award, $50 from the Post and $50 from its Auxiliary. All participants received certificates to accompany their award.

Other students participating in the contest included Emilio Serna, Carmen Arvizu, Sabrina Nunez, Samantha Morales, Nataly Prieto, Christian Negrete, Kevin Mora, Angel Rojas and Jacqueline Ceja.
