Driver flees after crashing into home

A 19-year-old driver suspected of being under influence of alcohol crashed into a Yuma home Wednesday morning, sending one person to the hospital.

Shortly before 10:00 a.m., the Yuma Fire Department received reports that the incident happened in the 700 block of West 13th Street. Arriving firefighters found a late model Oldsmobile partially lodged into the south side of a home at 790 W. 13th Street.

Two adults were inside the home when the accident occurred. Paramedics treated one of the adults for non-life threatening injuries, and they were transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene prior to YFD arrival, and was later apprehended by Yuma Police Department officers.

There were no other injuries reported because of this incident. Yuma Fire Department Technical Rescue Technicians secured the house, along with staff from the City of Yuma’s Building Safety Division. The house is not able to be re-occupied until repairs are made.
