Topic of the Day: Confederacy Era Monuments Removed

The United States of America is torn between those who want to preserve the country’s history and those that believe keeping certain relics that praise a negative period in our nation’s history causes more harm than good.
In the cover of darkness the City of New Orleans begun a process which will take part of its history and remove it. On Monday, construction crews wearing bulletproof vests and hiding their identities removed a 35-foot monument which paid tribute to an uprising against the city’s first post-Civil War biracial government.
During the attack in 1874 thirteen police officers and six civilians were killed during the battle on Canal Street.
Now, the Liberty Place monument will sit in storage until a suitable location is found. Soon, the monument will be joined by other Confederacy era statues; set to be removed are the statues of General Robert E. Lee and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
