Eastbound Interstate 8 ramps at Fourth Ave. closing for several months

Caltrans will close eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) on and off ramps at Fourth Avenue in Winterhaven beginning Tuesday due to ongoing construction, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Signs will be in place to alert motorists to the ramp closures and alternate routes. The closures and detours will be in place through July.

Detour Eastbound I-8 to Fourth Avenue: Motorists will exit Winterhaven Drive and proceed north along Winterhaven Drive to Fourth Avenue.

Detour Fourth Avenue to Eastbound I-8: Motorists will proceed to the westbound I-8 on-ramp, drive on westbound I-8 and exit at Winterhaven Drive, proceed south and access eastbound I-8.

Caltrans crews continue to work on the I-8 Update Project in Imperial County, from State Route 111 to the California/Arizona border. Lane closures and traffic detours along I-8 may cause delays as motorists travel between California and Arizona. Motorists traveling in Imperial County east of El Centro are urged to plan ahead.

The I-8 Update is a major pavement rehabilitation project which will construct Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on 48 miles of I-8 in Imperial County. The work will result in a long-lasting superior roadway. Construction began in 2016 on three segments. Two segments will begin work in 2017 and will be completed by 2019. Caltrans reminds motorists to slow down when driving through highway work zones. Motorists are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment in the project area.
