Residential fire under investigation; no injuries reported

Firefighters were called to a residential fire located in the outskirts of Holtville shortly after noon today.

News 11’s Nico Payne and our camera crew were first on scene as first responders battled the blaze. The fire was located on Verde School Road just outside of Holtville.

When our team arrived firefighters were putting out hot spots and taking preventative measures to keep the house next store from catching on fire.

“Nobody in the structure, it is occupied or it was occupied by three occupants, two adults and a teenager and they were all out at the time of the fire,” said Battalion Chief Angel Morales of Imperial County Fire.

We did speak to the homeowner off camera, he said field workers saw the house catch fire from what appeared to be small brush fire at first.

“Witnesses are say they saw the house on fire with the trees on fire as well,” added Morales.

IID responded to the fire along with Holtville and Imperial County Fire to assist by turning off the power.

“IID is always requested so they can shut off the power at the main grid,” explained Morales.

Chief Morales advised with temperatures on the rise and summer around the corner, people should clear dried brush from their property.

“Keep your house clean, at least 30 to 60 feet of clearance around your property would be really nice,” said Morales.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the good news is that there was no one inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries reported.
