Free tax services in Yuma County

For those who can’t afford to pay a company to file your 2016 taxes the United Way of Yuma County is offering free services to those who qualify.

The non-profit has been offering free tax services for the past five years and plans to help file over 1,200 returns this year.

“It’s a lot of mixed emotions for some people they kind of dread it and there are some people who actually do like to do it,” volunteer Edward Martinez says.
Martinez says he volunteers because he likes to work with numbers and help people. He’s one of 18 volunteers that offer there services at four sites.

“We need more volunteers to come every year to help more people because the help is definitely needed,” says Community Impact Coordinator Claudia Hutchinson.

If your planning on getting your taxes done she says to bring your I.D., Social, W2’s and any receipts you plan to write off.

“Seniors don’t know about the property tax credits that they can write it off. If they have a specific income amount,” says Hutchinson.

To qualify for the free tax preparation you must earn less than $56,000 and you could receive up to $6,269 in earned income tax credit.
