Convicted murderer arrested by Border Patrol
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted murderer trying to come into the U.S. illegally.
Agents say Jorge Antonio Negrete, 46, a Mexican national, was allegely seen walking north of the international border fence near downtown Calexico.
Agents took Negrete into custody and did a background, which revealed his criminal past.
Negrete was in jail for a year in 1991 for assault. He was released and placed on probation but was later arrested for murder. He was then sentenced to 29 years to life in prison.
Agents say Negrete was removed from the U.S. when he was released from prison on December 16, 2014.
Negrete will be criminally prosecuted for re-entry, according to U.S. Border Patrol officials.
