Local middle school student gets the flight of a lifetime

A very special flight happened today at MCAS Yuma. A middle schooler got the chance to take a flight in a P-51 mustang aircraft. Anthony, a student at 4th ave junior high, got the opportunity to fly in a aircraft that at one time was considered the most efficient airplane ever built. Anthony got the opportunity through the school liaison officer of MCAS. They contacted the school to see if any student would want to go up and fly in an aircraft. Principal Jose Cazares of 4th ave explains how and why junior high school student Anthony was chosen. “We picked about 15 students and finally narrowed it down to three and then it came down to where Anthony was the student that was chosen. The teachers really love Anthony because he is such a great, nice young man. He works hard, he’s involved in sports, he’s involved in band and he does just about everything we have there at school and he’s just a good kid,” said Cazares. This was Anthony’s first plane ride ever and it lasted 30 minutes while overlooking the city of Yuma. When asked how his flight went, he said, “it was great” and he thanked everyone for the opportunity, even suggesting that maybe one day he would work for the MCAS as a marine.
