Hoop’s House Recovery Home makes it’s way to Yuma

A new recovery home is making its way to Yuma. “Hoops House” established in Sierra Vista, Arizona, right outside of Tucson is opening up a house in Yuma to serve the community of those that have dealt with alcohol and or substance abuse. It is a 7 to 9 month recovery house where men complete an outpatient substance abuse program as well as learn how to be respectable and knowledgeably human beings. The house assists in teaching living skills, finding employment for the men, educating them in finance as well as helps them earn their drivers license. Founder of “Hoops House,” John Hooper explains what type of environment one can expect when entering one of his homes. “The environment we create in Hoops House is one of family. Its nowhere near an institution. We create safety, we create warmth, we create an environment that is conducive to recovery.” said Hooper. After 90 days, all residents must work toward getting either their G-E-D or college degree. Hoop’s House has a 77 percent success rate along with 33 of their past residents now working full time in the workforce. The house in Yuma will be the fourth home they’ve opened up in just nine months of starting the Hoops House project.
