Police caution drivers to be safe on St. Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s day is a day often known for pub crawls and an overflow of green beer.

But according to the Yuma Police Department, drivers can expect to see more officers on the road during the holiday weekend. “We’re going to have extra officers out there,” Sgt. Lori Franklin said. “We’re looking for the impairment, we’re looking for the D-U-I’s. So more officer will be out there Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.” Police said they want people to enjoy themselves but to also be mindful before going behind the wheel. “We want you to go out and have fun,” Sgt. Franklin said. “Have a great time, do it responsibly, get a designated driver [to help you get home.]” Local bars will host pub crawls over the holiday and employees said they will keep a watchful eye out on those who drink excessively. Julio Juarez is a bartender at the Pint House in Yuma.
