Abandoned Four-year-old girl found near Mt. Signal
El Centro Sector Border Patrol Agents found an abandoned Four-year-old girl in the Six o’clock hour Sunday morning.
We caught up with border patrol agents to find out what kind of condition the girl is in and where she is now.
“The child was found out in the desert area in a road that we patrol. It’s approximately about six, seven miles west of Calexico near Mt. Signal or formally known as Centinela,” said Agent Jonathan Pacheco, Acting Supervisor with Public Affairs.
Agents were in the area responding to an illegal crossing and did see a subject return to Mexico and flee in a vehicle.
Upon contact with the child agents say there were no signs of physical harm and she was left with contact information.
“The information that we currently have is that it’s a Four-year-old infant female, she was left with a birth certificate and contact information for the parents and she is from Guatemala,” stated Pacheco.
Border Patrol Agents say it’s common for families to seek a better life, but it’s not common for them to leave their child behind.
So far there have been no inquiries looking for the young girl, she is now in the hands of Health and Human Services who will try and contact members of her family as she awaits her immigration status disposition.
“When you turn over a child to these criminal organizations to bring them across, you set them up for a lot of things that could go above and beyond. That’s where the whole human trafficking comes into play, the sex slavery; again these are very difficult situations,” said Pacheco.
