Suspect faces several charges after crashing into a Yuma home

A man is in jail after crashing into a home and immediately fleeing the scene, t he Yuma Police Department has confirmed.

The suspect, 26 year-old Carlos Gutierrez, was intoxicated at the time of the accident. According to police, the accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday. Gutierrez was driving southbound on 47th Drive when he suddenly lost control of his car and struck the home. Along with leaving major structural damage behind, he abandoned his vehicle in an agricultural field. Gutierrez was detained and arrested at his home shortly after he fled from his vehicle. “He had mud on him,” Sergeant Lori Franklin said. “He was asked if he had been drinking and he admitted that he had, so he was brought back to the station and processed.” Gutierrez was arrested on five criminal charges and was booked to the Yuma County Detention Center that same day. “He has aggravated assault, criminal damage, fleeing the scene of an accident, DUI and endangerment charges.” Gutierrez will appear in front of a judge at the Yuma County Superior Courthouse on Tuesday.
