For nearly a century the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has recognized excellence in cinematic achievements. Celebrating those on and behind the silver screen; but, this year the Oscars will be remembered for much more, Hosted by comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel the night was expected to go as they have for decades with laughs, tears and upsets.
The biggest twist was veteran actor Warren Beatty announcing the wrong winner for best film; Beatty was given the wrong envelope. Beatty announced “La La Land” as best picture, it turned out “Moonlight” was the winner. Next, a surprise visit from unsuspecting tourists on board a tour bus.
They were led on stage and to their surprise they became part of history. On a somber note Iranian director Asghar Farhadi made it clear he would not attend the Oscars in person due to President Trump’s travel ban. His drama “The Salesman” won for best foreign-language film.
To wrap up the show another on stage mishap as 16 year old Moana star Auli’i Cravalho was struck in the head by a backup dancer holding a flag while performing a song from the movie; the Moana star took the hit like a champ and didn’t let it phase her performance.
