Reports of shots fired leads to an arrest
An incident over the weekend led to an arrest after reports of shots fired in El Centro.
Initial reports indicated that the shots may have been from a BB gun but police investigations reveal it came from a small caliber handgun.
When officers arrived they spoke to an individual who thought they were struck by what may have been a bb gun.
Once on scene officers immediately began to gather evidence that led to a description of a vehicle that fled the area.
“They did however contact an individual who had some property damage to the jacket he was wearing, it did appear that a projectile had struck him, not causing any bodily damage or bodily injury other than some bruising to one of his arms,” said Cmdr. Robert Sawyer, El Centro Police Dept.
The vehicle was identified as a Jeep Cherokee which was located on Sunday during a traffic stop.
“Approximately three o’clock in the morning on Sunday just within five, six hours of the incident occurring. One of our officers located a Jeep that matched the description provided by people at the intersection of 6th and Main earlier in the night, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found three occupants,” explained Sawyer.
During the traffic stop a handgun was found and the driver of the vehicle identified as Isaiah Anthony Camacho was arrested and booked in county jail.
Camacho and the two occupants denied being involved in the shooting.
Camacho was arrested for being a felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and felon in possession of ammunition as the investigation continues.
