Traffic advisory for drivers on SR 86
The city of Imperial has a traffic advisory in effect on State Route 86 which is a main roadway for drivers.
We spoke to city officials to find out how long the construction will be going on.
“The city took possession of 86 back in December and we are having some road improvement going on, so you can expect traffic delays between Barioni and Aten Boulevard,” explained Alexis Chalupnik, Executive Assistant, City of Imperial.
The advisory was put into effect on Wednesday and will last through Friday. Crews started the work on Barioni Boulevard and will be working on resurfacing the roadways that might not have been sealed at properly.
“The top layer was not able to adhere to the other layer and because of that it started deteriorating a little bit, so now they are out here, we have one year warranty with Caltrans, so there out here to fix it and that’s what they’re doing and the road will be back to perfect quality,” added Chalupnik.
The city has also been working with Caltrans to make sure that culverts are cleared out and storm drain systems are moving as they are supposed to, to prevent flooding.
City officials also mentioned that state route 86 will have continuing construction in the weeks to come where they will be implementing signalization.
