Stabbed Calexico man nearly loses his life

Behind the stores on the 300th block of West Second Street in Calexico, police said a man almost lost his life.

Officer Manuel Ceja said, “He appeared to be suffering from a single stab wound to the back. He was bleeding profusely.”

The 24-year-old victim told police he was walking behind a building complex when a man in his early forties with shaved head approached him.

“The suspect then told him to leave the area and the victim somewhat hesitated. And they had a physical altercation,” Ceja said.

A silver 8-inch knife was used in the attack.

“The suspect then pulled out a knife from an unknown location and stabbed him one time in the back and then fled the area,” Ceja said.

The victim stumbled out of the area and asked for help at the 300th block of Cesar Chavez Avenue.

“He stumbled to the nearest business in order for someone to call nine-one-one due to him not having a cell phone in his possession,” Ceja said.

Police said they found the victim slumped outside a store bleeding heavily from the stab wound.

“He told me had just been stabbed by an unknown individual one time in the back and he was having difficulty breathing. He was requesting the ambulance to treat him. The ambulance did show up shortly after. They treated him, stabilized him. And then took him to the Calexico airport and then he was flown out to San Diego,” Ceja said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 40’s who goes by the moniker “Pela Vacas” and has an 8-inch knife.

“We’re asking assistance from anybody out in the public if they know anybody with that moniker Pela Vacas which is in Spanish, to give us a call,” Ceja said.

Police said the victim survived the attack and has been released from the hospital.
