Naval Air Facility welcomes new commanding officer

El Centro Naval Air Facility held a ceremony to welcome the new commanding officer.

A traditional naval ceremony was held as leadership of installation was transferred to Captain Brent A. Alfonzo.

After a ceremonial introduction the new commanding officer participated in the reading of orders and had remarks for those in attendance.

“To the outstanding professionals who are the heart and soul of Naval Air Facility, El Centro, I am humbled and honored to be standing up here today. Each one of you on a daily basis plays a vital role in protecting our nation. In every crisis that has occurred since World War II, one of the first questions out of the presidents mouth is, where are the carriers?” Said Captain Brent A. Alfonzo of The United States Navy.

Captain Alfonzo is a native of Poway, California and will be taking the position of Captain William C. Doster.

Captain Doster has been serving as commanding officer since August 2014 and will be retiring after 25 years of honorable service.

“Captain Alfonzo and I spent the last few weeks turning over this operation and I know that he will do an outstanding job leading this command. Fever, good luck and have fun. Command is supposed to be fun dang it, make sure you remember that from time to time,” said Captain William C. Doster of The United States Navy.

The ceremony also featured a special guest speaker who gave words of advice and gratitude before the captains read their orders.

“No matter the challenge or concerns you are ready to roll up your sleeves and work with and support us. Thank you for making El Centro and The Imperial Valley better places for our sailors, civilians and their families to live, work and play. And thank you for your continued efforts in protection our ability to train as we fight,” said Rear Admiral Yancy Lindsey, Commander, Navy Region Southwest.

“All standing orders, instructions and notices remain effect,” added Captain Alfonzo.
