DOC: Homicide suspected in death of Arizona prison inmate

Criminal investigators with the Arizona Department of Corrections say they’re investigating the death of an inmate as a suspected homicide.

DOC officials say 31-year-old Joseph Wozny was found unresponsive at his assigned housing location on Jan. 6.

Responding paramedics transported him off-site to Abrazo West Campus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Jan. 15.

DOC investigators say they suspect that Wozny died as a result of injuries he received during an assault by another inmate.

He had been at the medium-custody Stiner Unit at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in Buckeye. Wozny was sentenced to prison in 2010 to serve a 10-year term for aggravated robbery out of Pinal County.
