CPD nab man they say is the Wall Bandit

Jorge Enrique Trujillo tried to cross to Calexico on Friday at 1 a.m., mingling with several farm workers, at the west port of entry. Calexico police believe he was probably on his way to work.

Calexico Police Detective Armando Orozco said 26-year-old Trujillo was a suspect in several local burglaries.

“The subject was detained by U.S. Customs crossing the U.S. Mexican border when I was notified, and I went over to contact him,” Orozco said.

Orozco pointed out something peculiar about Trujillo, “one of the photos we had put out was the one where the suspect was showing a distinctive C-S-L tattoo.”

Orozco wanted to look at his arms.

“While speaking to him, he was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt, and I was able to see the bottom portion of the tattoo from the cellphone burglary. I asked to see the rest of the tattoo and i recognized both tattoos on both sides of his arms,” Orozco said.

Trujillo’s backpack had items not typical for an average person or a field worker. Police them standard burglary items that could have been used in a recent string of local incidents.

“We have what we call a shaved key which burglars use to get into cars. It’s illegal to even possess it. You have a ski mask to try to cover the person’s identity,” Orozco explained as he pointed at each item taken out from Trujillo’s backpack and spread out on a table.

Authorities said Trujillo allegedly made holes in walls of businesses that were burglarized. That’s why Calexico Police dubbed him the Wall Bandit.

“They had video and we were able to match the jacket that the suspect was wearing and the backpack,” Orozco said.

An item in Trujillo’s backpack was claimed by a victim.

“She actually looked at it and said, that’s my watch,” Orozco said.

Orozco said stopping Trujillo from going to work probably made Calexico much safer.

“We believe that he was probably getting ready to commit another burglary this evening or this morning,” Orozco concluded.
