Proposed Bill 1049 calls for a ban on texting while driving; local police share Yuma’s results

A proposed bill that would ban texting while driving has made its way to the Arizona Senate once again.

The Associated Press reports that it’s been a continuous proposal by Tucson Senator Steve Farley, but the ban on texting while driving may have a chance now that former Senate President Andy Biggs, who continuously refuted the ban in the past, is no longer in office.

Senator John Kavanagh proposed Bill 1049 this year, banning texting while driving, but still allowing other uses of phones: calls and GPS services behind the wheel.

In Yuma, texting while driving is illegal, but local police says that is not stopping all drivers.
