VMFA-121 leaves Yuma for Japan

The Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121, an F-35B Squadron with 3rd Marine aircraft Wing, has left Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and transferred to Iwakuni, Japan.

The departure took place on Monday.

Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, is the first location to receive the F-35B, as part of its worldwide deployment.

The F-35B was designed to replace the F/A-18 Hornet, AV-8B Harrier and EA-6B Prowler. This short take-off vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft is stealthy, has cutting-edge radar and sensor technology and electronic warfare systems making it a fifth generation fighter, according to Marine Corps officials.
