Ballet Yuma Student heading to the Big City

A student from Ballet Yuma is stepping up to a new level by receiving the American Ballet Theater National Training Scholarship.

Only ten students were chosen out of thousands at the A.B.T Summer Intensive in New York City. Fifteen years old, Eric Snyder, was one of them.

For Snyder, his passion for ballet is making his dreams a reality. Kathleen Sinclair has been working with Snyder, and sees a bright future.

“He definitely could have a professional career in the ballet world, he’s definitely talented enough for that,” the co-artistic director says.

The scholarship covers the full cost of the summer intensive program in New York and a portion of the student’s housing and year-round training expenses. Snyder looks forward to returning back and continue his training.

“This scholarship is my opportunity to go back, the summer session is a month long and it’s about three weeks and every day you’re going to the American Ballet Theater training and you’re training under the curriculum. After the day I would go to my apartment and just collapse on my bed and wait until the next day.”

Eric is training at the Ballet Yuma with his team who are like family to him and working towards his high school diploma and associates at home until he heads back to the city.
